Types of Incontinence

There are many types of urinary incontinence. Our Oakdale Ob/Gyn doctors and nurse practitioners will talk with you about your symptoms and determine a care plan with you after completing an evaluation. Types of incontinence include:

Stress urinary incontinence: loss of urine even though you try to "hold" it in. This is often due to weak pelvic floor muscles.

Urge incontinence: a loss of urine for no apparent reason while feeling the need to urinate

Mixed incontinence: urine loss as a result of several types of stress and urge incontinence. Sneezing, coughing or exertion might result in urine loss.

Intrinsic sphincteric deficiency: urine loss as a result of weak urethra sphincter muscles.
