Urogynecology

Urogynecology

We offer the best in non-surgical and surgical treatments to treat female pelvic floor, or urogynecology, problems. Common conditions we treat include urinary incontinence, urinary frequency, pelvic organ prolapse (“fallen bladder”), overactive bladder, and bladder pain.

State-of-the-art evaluation includes advanced ultrasound, urodynamic testing, EMG and neuromuscular studies, and office cystoscopy. When possible, conservative treatment includes medications, pessary therapy, physical therapy and lifestyle changes.

When conservative treatments fail, we offer outpatient surgical services that include minimally invasive procedures, laparoscopic and daVinci robotic surgeries, and vaginally placed sling procedures (TVT and TVTO) to help treat incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse.

Gynecologic surgeon Jon S. Nielsen, M.D., brings advanced training in complex pelvic floor disorders that include pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence. He works in partnership with referring physicians to evaluate, diagnose, and treat complex urogynecologic concerns.

What is urogynecology?

Urogynecology is a gynecologic subspecialty that is focuses on care for women who have urinary problems. Similar to urologists who care for men's urinary health, urogynecology is performed by gynecologists who have special interest and training in caring for urinary leakage, or incontinence, in women.

Many of today's modern urogynecology surgical procedures to treat urinary incontinence were developed by gynecologists. In fact, gynecologists have been leaders in managing pelvic organ prolapse concerns for a long time. Common terms used to describe this condition are "fallen bladder", "prolapsed uterus", "vaginal bulge", and "female organs falling out".

Oakdale Obstetrics and Gynecology’s obstetric and gynecology physicians and women’s health practitioners see women of all ages for urogynecology concerns at three convenient locations in Maple Grove, Plymouth and Robbinsdale.
