Despite all the negative publicity about VBAC, we here at Oakdale Obstetrics & Genecology, P.A. encourage our patients who have had a previous cesarean delivery (C-section), to consider the vaginal birth after C-section (VBAC) option.
Dr. Jon Nielsen, one of our OBGYN specialists reports, "The ‘once a C-section, always a C-section’ rule no longer is necessary. The risk with VBAC is clearly less than most people think it is, but it must be done in a hospital setting that has the ability to do rapid, emergency surgery if needed". An in depth discussion with one of our doctors about risks and benefits is encouraged. Success is common here at Oakdale OBGYN if VBAC attempt is decided upon. In fact, an estimated 60% to 80% of women who try VBAC have a successful vaginal delivery. "We have done more than 100 successful VBAC’s over the last several years", reports Dr. Nielsen. The benefits for having a VBAC over a cesarean delivery are:
No Abdominal Incision ~ Shorter Hospital Stay ~ Lower Risk of Infection
Faster recovery ~ Less Pain
Many OBGYN providers and hospitals don't offer VBAC because they don't have the staff or resources to handle an emergency C-section. Our OBGYN specialists are credentialed and active staff members at Maple Grove Hospital and North Memorial Medical Center. Both facilities have the resources to assist and support our patients and specialists to safely perform VBAC, and emergency C-section deliveries.
We are the largest OBGYN practice at both hospitals and the only OBGYN group providing around-the-clock obstetric and gynecologic care!
