Benefits of Prenatal Screenings

Prenatal screening tests offer useful information about the health of your baby and you. These tests are most often used to determine your baby’s risk of birth defects or genetic conditions, but also assure us that you stay healthy throughout your pregnancy. Test results help guide us in caring for you and your baby. If a screening is abnormal, further evaluation may be needed.

Many prenatal tests are routine, while others depend on your medical history. Not all pregnant women receive the same tests. We encourage you to talk with your doctor, nurse midwife or nurse practitioner about which screening tests are best for you and your baby.
